Yes, the duo you see in the picture is behind this app: Miloš and Irena.
The two of us travel a lot. Road trips, especially. There’s something about having the car, the freedom to stop wherever, and no fixed schedule that we keep coming back to. Over the years, we’ve driven through a good chunk of Europe, and the planning has always been part of the experience.
But somewhere along the way, the planning started feeling like a second job.
About a year ago, in the middle of mapping out another trip, the thought came up — wouldn’t it be something if there was a tool that just handled this? Not a generic map app, not a travel blog with links everywhere, but something that actually thought through your specific route, your driving pace, what you want to see, and what it’s all going to cost.
It wasn’t the first time we’d had an idea about building something. There had been others over the years. But this one stuck. It stayed with us for days, and when we looked around and couldn’t find anything that came close to what we had in mind, we decided to build it ourselves.
Neither of us is a software developer. My background is in IT ops and project management. I know how products get built, and I can write code, just never professionally. That’s partly why I took the lead. But building something from scratch in your spare time, around everything else life demands, is a different challenge entirely. The first months were mostly thinking, deciding, and starting over more times than I’d like to admit. Logo, use cases, how the product should actually feel to use, all of that came before anything else. The actual building happened in the gaps.
A year later, RouteMuse exists. What you’re seeing now is the first version; there’s a lot more to come. We’re at the beginning of this, and we want to build it in a direction that’s actually useful for people who travel the way we do. That means your feedback matters more than anything right now.
If you try it and have thoughts on what works, what’s missing, or what you’d want to see next, we’d love to hear from you. Fill out this form, and we will send some free credits back as a thank you.
